When my dad wants me to go out something sporty, I just go to Rowley’s house and play my computer games there.

Unfortunately, the only games that I can play at Rowley’s home are car-racing games and stuff like that.

Because whenever I bring a game to Rowley’s house, his father take the games from my hand, and they got research on the web-site for preparing both dads and moms. If my games include ANY kind of fighting and violence, he won’t let us play.

I am getting sick of playing formula one racing with Rowley because he is not player that I want to compete with. To beat him, the only thing that you need to do is to choose silly name for your car at the beginning of the game

Then, when you pass Rowley’s car, he little boy die laughing.

Anyway, after I beat him to size, I headed home. I run through the neighbors a couple times to make it look like I was all sweaty and that seemed my dad believe in me.

Wednesday
I guess my dad must have been quite happy, since he made me go outside yesterday since he did again.
It is annoying to me going to Rowley’s house when I want to play computer games. There is weird kid named Fragley who is living between our house and Rowley’s house and he is always hanging out in his front yard. It is pretty hard to avoid him.

He is my classmate in physical education lesson. This boy uses a made up language. Like when want to go to toilet he says “juice juice.”

We as kids have an idea about him but I don’t think so teachers can do it.

Today, whatever happens I would go to Rowley’s house because my brother Rodrick was making practice with his band in the basement.
Comment
It is really enjoyable to do it. However, it is really hard to give the comic impression for the audience. I don’t think so my translation is as comic as the original one. I tried best to make it comic as the original one. This is also childish. Thinking like a little child was hard for me.


Ciplakli Koyu :

In the Village Ciplakli, where credit card and cash are not valid, peasant women meet their daily needs with the way of barter rather than money.

In the village Ciplakli, which is a district of Selim in Kars, peasant women do shopping and meet their daily needs with barter by giving goose, chicken and eggs just as they live in a period in the history when the money was not invented. While children exchange eggs to get chips and chewing gums, women in the village meet daily needs by exchanging goose, chicken and eggs. Stating that the villagers, who live on agriculture and animal husbandry, cannot always find money, they indicate that they have been providing their daily needs by bartering for centuries.

Sevginaz Yılmaz, who is a resident of the village, went to grocery with the goose in her hand. In return for the stuff that she was going to get in the grocery, she made a big bargain with Dudan Gündaş, owner of the grocery. Sevginaz Yılmaz, selling her goose for 70 TL, said "I brought my goose to the grocery to do shopping" by stating her complaints about bovine animals which have less price to be sold to. Our stuff isn't worth anything; we take our cows to the animal shopping market and sell them for only 2.000 TL. When people like me cannot get enough money, they will meet their needs by exchanging goose.

Comment:
This is a really interesting text and it is not formal. Thus, I had difficulty to make a meaningful sentence in English. It is very Turkish. It has many cultural elements. I am not sure that my translation gives the same impression with the original one. This is an example of a word to word translation.




Bizim English:


Today, a student, who has been dealing with English in her life over the years in one way or another, still is not able to put together two words related to his or her way of life, education, background or interest areas, which is a result of traditional education system prevalent in Turkey. It is so that even people who know English, and who receive their education in a foreign language medium school; such as "Üsküdar İskelesi", "Babaili Yokuşu", do not know the words being a part of life in Turkey; such as, cob and prayer beads. Similarly, a student trying to learn English with the way of traditional education method is responsible for learning the words; such as, giraffe, pig or Big Ben Clock Tower, which they have never seen in his life before and which primarily never take a part in his life, rather than learning the words; such as, Faculty of Business Administration, School administration, graduation diploma, wage, government office, tuition etc, which may be a exact interests to him. For example, during secondary education among the words over 2000, which are determined for being taught in English classes taken at least 2 hours a week, a student often encounters the words which are not related to his/her own culture and life while the words, which are necessary to talk about his/her culture; such as, Republic of Turkey, moon and the star (symbols of the Turkish Flag), Ottoman Empire, Islam, are not encountered even one time. Thus, Turkish speaker of English, who comes across a foreigner, has difficulty to express topics that are related to him/her and that he/she can talk about it. It is an arguable point whether this lack in our foreign language education is one of the reasons why Turkey cannot introduce herself abroad for many a long year.




In particular, we find a solution to solve the problem of foreign language education, which prevents a student's alliniation and his/her joining the army of "foreign language retiree" wearily on increase , in use of teaching aids at the Institution of Turkish Education. Aside from English education aids based on the standards of USA and Britain, it is very natural that although they spend years in Turkey, experts from foreign countries do not know the needs of Turkish learners as much as Turkish teachers of English do. Because they cannot comprehend their way of life and understanding, because of the difference among Turkish learners' cultural background, it is hard to succeed in education aids prepared by these expert, which is inferred through lives of Turkish learners.


Comment:
This is the one that I have difficulty to translate most especially second paragraph. There are many sentences which are so long. While I was trying put them together in English it took thousands minutes. It is a very formal text. I need to know the exact equivalence words in English. I looked at the dictionaries many time again and again. Sometimes I got help from my classmates. The writer of the text Alev Alatli is a writer whose works are hard to be understood even in Turkish.

Son zamanlarda hayatımı ve kariiyerimi etkileyen garip bir şey başıma geldi. Bu garip şey bu meslekle olan ilişkilerimi yeniden düzenlememe sebep oldu. Bu sozler cok iyi geliyor anlatamam. Ama, 20 yil oncesinde hatırladığım bir olay dışında bu daha da kötü olabilirdi. Gençken, insanlara bir yazar olmak istediğimi söylediğim zaman, benzer şekilde, korku dolu tepkilerle karşılaştım. Ve insanlar "asla başarı elde edemeyecek olmaktan/olmandan korkmuyor musun? This is the easy to translate when I compare others because it is translated from English to Turkish. I had some problems with the words using for speaking. This text is kind of spoken language that’s why it is hard to find equal words.
